Critical Dates Relating to Your 2018- 2019 Federal Tax Returns

January 15, 2019

4th quarter estimated tax payments due for 2018 tax year.

Deadline for employers to file Form W-2, W3 and Form 1099 & transmittal form 1096 statements with the Social Security Administration if filing on paper or magnetic media.

February 2, 2019

If you didn’t pay your last installment of estimated tax by Jan. 15, you may choose (but are not required) to file your 2018 income tax return (Form 1040) by Feb 2. Filing your return and paying any tax due by Feb2 prevents any penalty for late payment of the last installment. If you can’t file and pay your tax by Feb 2, file and pay your tax by April 15.

Deadline for farmers and fishermen who have a balance due on their taxes to file their individual tax return and pay the balance due without any late payment penalties. However, you have until April 15 to file if you paid your 2018 estimated tax by January 15,2019

March 15, 2019

Deadline for corporate tax returns (Forms 1120S), for the calendar year 2018, or to request automatic 6-month extension of time to file (Form 7004).

Final deadline to file an amended corporate tax return (Form 1120X) for tax year 2015 and still claim a tax refund.

S Corporation: File a 2018 calendar year income tax return (Form 1120S) and pay any tax due. Provide each shareholder with a copy of Schedule K-1 (Form 1120S), shareholder’s Share of Income, Deductions, Credits, etc., or a substitute Schedule K-1. If you want an automatic 6-month extension of time to file thereturn, file Form 7004 and deposit what you estimate you owe.

S corporation election. File Form 2553, Election by a Small Business Corporation, to choose to be treated as an S corporation beginning with calendar year 2019. If Form 2553 is filed late, S treatment will begin with calendar year 2020.

Deadline to file Partnership Tax Returns (Form 1065) or to request an automatic 6-month extension of time to file (Form 7004), then file it on or before September 15, 2019.

Final deadline for estates, trusts, or partnerships to file an amended tax return and still claim a tax refund for the year 2015.

March 31, 2019

April 15, 2019

Deadline to file individual tax returns (Form 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) for tax year 2018 or to request an Automatic Extension (Form 4868) then file the return on or before 10/15/19.

Final deadline to file an amended corporate tax return (Form 1120X) for tax year 2015 and still claim a tax refund.

Last day to make contribution to traditional IRA or Roth IRA for 2018 tax year.

Final deadline to file amended tax return (form 1040X) for tax year 2015 and still claim a tax refund. (Be sure to mail the amended return well before April 15th to make sure your tax refund will be processed in a timely manner.)

Deadline to file Estate or Trust Tax Returns (Form 1041) or to request an automatic 6-month extension of time to file (Form 7004).

Household employers. If you paid cash wages of $1,500 or more in 2018 to a household employee, you must file Schedule H. If you are required to file a federal income tax return (Form 1040), file Schedule H with the return and report any household employment taxes. Report any federal unemployment (FUTA) tax on Schedule H if you paid total cash wages of $1,000 or more in any calendar quarter of 2018 or 2019 to household employees. Also, report any income tax you withheld for your household employees. For more information, see Publication 926.
